Quick answer

Powder coating is a dry, electrostatically applied finish that's baked in an oven until it flows into a hard, even shell. It's thicker and far more chip-, fade- and rust-resistant than spray paint. Paco's Powder Coating handles everything from a single set of wheels to batches of industrial parts at our shop in Watkinsville. Call 937-554-6414 for pricing.

How our powder coating process works

Every job runs through the same four steps, and none of them are skipped:

  • Strip and blast. Old paint, rust and mill scale come off in our blast cabinet so the powder bonds to clean metal. Bigger pieces can be blasted on-site; see sandblasting.
  • Mask and prep. Threads, bearing surfaces and bushing bores get plugged or taped. If a part has bushings, we can press them out and back in with our bushing press.
  • Spray. Powder is applied electrostatically with the Powder X batch system, so it wraps edges and corners instead of running.
  • Cure and inspect. Parts bake until the powder flows out and hardens, then cool and get checked before you pick them up.

What we powder coat

If it's metal and can take oven heat, we can usually coat it. Common jobs out of our shop include:

  • Wheels for cars, trucks and motorcycles, with tire mount and dismount done in-house
  • Truck and off-road parts: suspension arms, brackets, bumpers, frames and brake calipers
  • Patio furniture, gates, fences and handrails that live outside year-round
  • Engine parts, exhaust pieces, valve covers and intake parts
  • Farm, equipment and industrial parts, from one-offs to production batches

Colors, finishes and custom matching

We stock and order from Prismatic Powders, which carries thousands of colors: gloss, satin, matte, metallic, candy, textured and wrinkle finishes. Bring a sample and we can match a color, or layer a base and a translucent topcoat for depth. For firearms, knives and parts that need a thin, high-heat ceramic finish, ask about Cerakote.

Why choose Paco's

Owner Jared Pitts is a US Navy veteran, and production manager Carson Burrell runs the line day to day. We're Master Powder Certified, family run, and we keep turnaround quick without cutting corners on prep, which is what actually decides how long a finish lasts. Check our project gallery and shop videos to see the work.

Wheel powder coating

Wheels take more abuse than any other part on a vehicle: brake dust, road salt, curb rash and pressure washing. A cured powder finish is far tougher than factory clear coat or rattle-can paint, which is why it's our most-requested job.

We dismount the tires, strip and blast the wheels to bare metal, mask the hub and bead seats, then coat and bake them. Pick any color or finish, from gloss black to bronze or candy red, and we remount the tires in-house. Calipers, lug nuts and center caps can be done to match.

Gates, fencing & railings

Custom Gate Powder Coating Watkinsville & Athens, GA

Driveway gates, walk gates, fence panels and railings take the worst of Georgia weather: sun, rain, pollen and sprinkler overspray. Paint chips and rust bleeds through within a few seasons. Powder coating bonds a thicker, oven-cured finish to the metal that holds its color and resists chipping far longer.

We sandblast old paint and rust down to bare steel, repair-ready, then coat and cure in our shop. New custom gates from your fabricator can come straight to us for a finish before install. Gloss or satin black, bronze, textured or a custom color to match your house trim.

Questions

Powder Coating Watkinsville & Athens, GA FAQs

How much does powder coating cost?

It depends on the size of the part, how much stripping and blasting it needs, and the color or finish. Call 937-554-6414 or send the quote form with a description or photos and we'll give you a price.

How long does powder coating take?

Most jobs are quick, but turnaround depends on how many parts, how much prep they need, and whether your color is in stock. We'll give you a time estimate with your quote.

Is powder coating better than paint?

For most metal parts, yes. A cured powder finish is thicker and more resistant to chips, scratches, fading and rust than spray paint, and it releases little to no VOCs.

Do I need to remove the tires before coating wheels?

No. We can dismount your tires, coat the wheels and remount the tires in-house.

Can you coat parts that are already painted or rusty?

Yes. We strip and blast old coatings and rust down to clean metal first, because that prep is what makes the new finish last.
